Toxic Reduction Policy Statement

Toxic Reduction Policy Statement of Intent

Royal Canin does not intent to reduce the creation of particulate matter from the production of pet food as there are not technically viable options available. However, Royal Canin is committed to playing a leadership role in protecting the environment. Wherever feasible, we will strive forward to eliminate or reduce the use, creation and discharge of particulate matter in full compliance with all federal and provincial regulations. Our employees are encouraged to participate in all types of toxic substance reduction activities. Toxic substance reduction will be an ongoing effort at Royal Canin, and we will continue to monitor advancements in pet food manufacturing to ensure that options that are both technologically and financially viable are implemented at our facility.

Reduction Objectives

All employees at Royal Canin will be involved in the reduction of toxic substance use, creation and releases.
No current options were identified that are technically feasible or economically feasible.

Plan Summary Statement

This plan summary accurately reflects the content of the toxic substance reduction plan for particulate matter (TSP, PM10, and PM2.5), prepared on behalf of Royal Canin dated December 23, 2013.

Description of Substance

Particulate matter is a Criteria Air Contaminant that is created and released during the handling of raw materials, at various pet food manufacturing stages, during product packaging and shipping, and as a by-product of fuel combustion for heat and steam.

The NAICS codes applicable to the facility are:

31 Manufacturing
3111 Animal Food Manufacturing
311111 Dog and Cat Food Manufacturing

The site does not use Phase 1 MOE Toxic Compounds. TRA planning is required for a total of three (3) Phase 2 MOE Toxic Compounds:

MOE Phase 2 Toxic Compound CAS Number
Total Suspended Particulate Matter NA – M08
Particulate Matter less than 10 micron in diameter (PM10) NA – M09
Particulate Matter less than 2.5 micron in diameter (PM2.5) NA – M10

The three Phase 2 substances have been consolidated into one plan: Particulate Matter (TSP, PM10, and PM2.5).
